Topic:             ISSUES OF LIFE

TEXT:              PROV 4:23-27

Motives, in  tent and consequent Actions are what God measures in man. Incidentally, both motives and actions are generated from the heart. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” So it’s a heart Issue. That’s why the Bible says, “Keep your heart with All diligence, because your survival or otherwise depend on it.”
Come with me on this interactive session as we Search our Hearts on the series “ISSUES OF LIFE”
We will pause along the line to see what Lessons we have learnt.

In Jn 3:25-30, the disciples of John the Baptist observed to him that Jesus whom he witnessed about is copying exactly what John was doing and unfortunately “all men are crossing over to Jesus.”
The responses of John are quite instructive as well as the motive of his disciples.

MATTERS ARISING – From the Story:

  1. What is the motive of the disciples of John?
Was it out of Envy, Mischief, Genius observations?
Lessons learnt: Be careful what actions you take or things said unless your ‘Motive is Right or Sincere’. You must have no hidden agenda.
    John 12:4-6; Jer 17:9; 1Sam. 24:4-7; Jas. 4:2-3; Phil. 4:19; Acts 8:20-22; 1Sam. 18:4.
  2. What were the allegations against Jesus by John’s disciples?
  3. That Jesus baptized people. Was it True? Jn 4:1-2
Lesson learnt: You must ALWAYS tell the Truth. Do you?
    Mat 3:8, 2Cor 5:17, 1Sam 31:5, 2Sam 1:1-16, Rev 21:27,
  4. “All men came to Jesus Baptism”. Is it True or Exaggerated? Gen 3:1-3.

Lesson learnt: You must Not Exaggerate.
We must give because we love God, love others and want to promote the kingdom/work of God.

  1. Vs 27 – John said, “A man can receive nothing except it is from Heaven.”
    1:17, Matt. 25:14-15, Lk. 19:12-13, 1Cor 3:7, Eph 4:8-10, 1Cor 4:7
Lesson to learn: All you have, skill, wealth, property has come from God and you should put it at His disposal.
  1. Vs 28. “…..I’m not the Christ…..”
John operated under an uncommon anointing, that brought harlots and soldiers to River Jordan in repentance. Without bill boards, hand bills, yet he was humble enough to say I’m not the Christ,
Lesson to be learnt: No matter how anointed or Wealthy you are don’t play God. It’s dangerous. E.g. king Nebuchadnezzar, The Rich Fool…
  1. Vs 29. The Breaking News of this Heart Issue is, “He that hath the Bride is the Bridegroom.”
How would you react if the pastor announces that a fixed wedding is canceled because the best-man had eloped with the bride after native law and custom has been concluded? John says, I will never covet His bride.
