Topic: ISSUES OF LIFE (Part 3)
TEXT: PROV. 4:23-27; Prov. 4: 20-23
In this series of Issues of life, we have discovered that life is full of the good, the bad, the ugly. In life there are disappointments, wickedness, struggles and surprises.
In the last session we saw the surprise of a bride giving in to the best-man, the frustration of a groom who was denied his legitimate bride, we saw the wickedness of a parent who married away his daughter to two friends.
We also saw the tragic death arising from breaking a covenant.
The parallels here is that Jesus will not settle for less from His bride. No spot. No blemish. No wrinkle.
Jesus will not accept a substitute bride.
Also Jesus will not listen to an excuse of going to look for extra oil. Get the extra Now!
In today’s discussions, we want to examine how a lady described by the Bible as very intelligent and of great beauty, became the bride of a groom described as ugly and very wicked though very rich…. A Paradox
Is beauty in the eyes of the beholder?
Or is Love really blind?
What role does external beauty play in the choice of a Christian bride or groom.
We shall consider this part under 2 sub-head
- FLESHLY BEAUTY IS OF LITTLE VALUE
The Bible says beauty without discretion is like decorating a pig with gold.
Beauty is only transient and the flesh is actually an enemy.
Prov 11:22, Isa 40:6-7, Gen 3:17-19, Prov 31:30, rom 8:5-8, 1Cor. 6:19-20, Eccl. 12:1,5,7 , Ps. 149:4.
- THE CONTENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE CONTAINER
Of what use is a beautiful Container, if the content is poison. But then how wonderful if the container is ugly but with a precious content
Isa 40:8, Matt 23:27-28, 1Pet 3:1-8, 2 Cor 4:7, Acts 3:1-8, Matt. 5:29-30.
